Weight management is a journey rather than a destination. Reaching your goal weight is in some ways the easy part, staying at goal for the rest of your life is what weight management is really about. We can't use complete abstinence as a method of weight control, to live we must eat. Therefore we need to look at our fundamental relationship with food.
Nourishment is fundamental to our evolution without it we cannot grow. Food is one of the most important substances we need to live. How food impacted on us when we were very young can have long lasting impact on us as adults. When we understand this relationship we are more empowered to make changes to our lives.
We need to be nurtured to grow to be a healthy human being. Nourishment in the form of food is only one aspect of this nourishment; love is another. In some people who have issues with food, love and food get mixed up and they try to nourish ourselves with food when it is something else that they need.
If we don't get enough of what we need we form opinions of ourselves that are distorted. Another very important factor in weight management is the image we have of ourselves. Some of us for various reasons have a false impression of who we really are we see ourselves as worthless and undeserving of love and nourishment.
